What’s the point of all this stretching?

Back when I started teaching yoga, I went around and took from many of the gurus of modern western yoga. I asked all of them the same question. Why do you teach yoga?

Very few had an answer. The teachers that did had the most significant impact in my life and practice. While the answers varied, the physical practice was more or less the same. I realized there was something important hidden in this “intention” thing.

Taking the effort to be entirely conscious of why I do what I do helps everyone around me. It also lets me come to terms with the unconcious reasons for my actions and leads me to an understanding of my desires.

You can tell when a yogi has concious intent. They become a mirror reflecting others aspirations and limitations with love. They allow us to figure out what truly makes sense to our innermost selves and what does not.
